Karen worked in the FE College sector for 8 years at Stevenson College Edinburgh (now Edinburgh College), initially working with the Student Association developing the mechanisms to enhance student engagement and ensure the Learner Voice was heard. She then became UCAS Coordinator for the college, supporting college staff and students and developing best practise, ultimately leading to increased success in college applicants applying to University. This led to a role on the SFC project; ELRAH, which sought ways to develop, enhance and support articulation in the college sector for students wanting to use their HNC/D qualifications to gain advanced entry to University. A move to Queen Margaret University in 2013 was an exciting opportunity to be involved in the development of the new Widening Participation and Outreach Team, supporting and developing activity in a university with it’s roots based in providing access to HE for students who may not normally have considered University, for a variety of reasons. Karen is the College Partnership Manager and works with the FE sector to develop routes into QMU, as well as coordinating transition support for widening participation students.
