Enhanced Learning Tutoring Initiative
Since 2020, Queen Margaret University has delivered the Enhanced Learning Tutoring Initiative (ELTI), an innovative tutoring programme in collaboration with East Lothian Council and Midlothian Council.
ELTI would not have been possible without the wonderful support of the STV Children’s Appeal and an East Lothian family charity, whose combined gifts of over £600,000 has helped us address the attainment gap in our local communities as well as providing wider social benefits.
Initially set-up in response to tackle the educational challenges faced by eligible S4-S6 school pupils from disadvantaged groups during the pandemic, over 1,000 pupils have been assisted to gain the necessary academic grades and confidence they need to thrive.
Highlights from the 2022/2023 programme include:
- 296 pupils offered 4,324 one-hour tutoring sessions.
- Almost 70% of pupils maintained or improved their predicted exam performance.
- Over 70% of pupils felt more confident.
- 40 tutors employed, bringing employment to our local communities.
