IGHD 30 Year Anniversary
In the year 2023 we celebrated the 30th Anniversary of IGHD. Started in 1993 as the Centre for International Health Studies, IGHD has developed into a small, globally respected centre for research and education.
As part of of the celebration we had organised a series of events:
30th Anniversary Conference that brought together IGHD researchers, partners, and the wider academic community to discuss some of the key ideas, methodological innovations and changes that have been developed through IGHD research today and over the past 30 years.
A panel discussion Where is the Global? chaired by IGHD Director Prof Daniel Reidpath, with guest panel speakers:
- Prof Pascale Allotey, Director of Sexual Reproductive Health, World Health Organisation
- Dr Modi Mwatsama, Head of Capacity and Field Development, Wellcome Trust
- Sabir Zazai, Chief Executive, Scottish Refugee Council
- Frances Guy, Chief Executive Officer, Scotland’s International Development Alliance
- Prof Barbara McPake, former Director of the Nossal Institute for Global Health
30th Anniversary Photography Competition where we wanted to tell the story of IGHD through the images of our staff, students, and alumni.
- We asked our alumni how IGHD shaped their life. Where are they now? What work do they do? Where do they live? The photo might express anything that links their life and their time with IGHD.
- We asked our staff and students to share a moment from a fieldwork, a meeting, a team-building activity, a project particularly meaningful, or anything that will tell us more about work and study at IGHD.
- We asked everyone else to tell us what global health and development means to them.
