Mr Mike Pretious (BA Hons, MBA, Dip) is a Senior Lecturer and Co-Programme Leader in Management in the Queen Margaret Business School.

Mike Pretious lectures in marketing, consultancy, and sustainability. His past academic career includes positions at the University of Stirling, in the Institute for Retail Studies, and at University of Abertay, Dundee.
Prior to becoming an academic, Mike worked primarily in the retail sector and held buying and marketing roles in a number of major companies, including Selfridges, Mothercare and the Burton Group (now Arcadia).
Mike has written academic papers, published in the trade and popular press and broadcasts on marketing, retail and consumer issues. He currently has a particular interest in social enterprise.
Mike has consultancy and short-course experience with a variety of clients. Outside his work at QMU, he is the current Chairperson of Social Enterprise in East Lothian and a board member with the Edinburgh-based youth homelessness charity Four Square. He is also active with social enterprises overseas, in particular in Nepal.
Mike’s past research has largely concentrated on issues relating to retail buying and the supply chain, particularly with respect to the ethics of the supply chain. He has also researched the topic of business crime, with a particular reference to retailing. Current research is largely orientated towards social enterprise and the sustainability agenda.

Mike's seminars and lectures focus on Marketing, strategy, business consultancy, sustainability, social enterprise, fashion marketing, management insight and consultancy, amongst many other topics.
