Dr. Jill Marshall (BA, MA, PhD) is a Lecturer in the Media, Communications and Performing Arts Division. She is also an affiliate member of the Centre for Communication, Cultural and Media Studies.

I am originally from Yorkshire and I was an undergraduate and postgraduate at the University of Sunderland in the North-East of England, where I completed my BA in Communication Studies, my MA in Cultural and Textual Studies and my PhD in comedy studies. I moved to Scotland to join Queen Margaret University as a lecturer in 2000.
Research/Knowledge Exchange Centre Membership:
My Masters thesis was a study of the gendered body and my doctorate was a study of gender and television comedy, I published an article on British film comedy at that time and have now revived my research into television comedy, specifically I am writing about female writer-performers, and am also taking part in a cross-disciplinary project on humour in persuasive communication.

- Textual analysis, qualitative observation, interview and analysis
I teach on a range of the media, film and research methods modules on our undergraduate degrees. My main areas of teaching are: Cultural theory, Media theory, textual theories; Theories of the body in society and culture, British television and British cinema; gender and media, aspects of digital, online and social media; cross-media genres of comedy and science fiction.
