Runners up in Converge Challenge Social Enterprise Category
At QMU we are so proud of team from Health Design Collective (Dr Kavi Jagadamma, Dr CathyBulley, Dr Derek Santos and Gillian Robinson from the MS Therapy Centre) who beat off stiff competition to scoop the runners up prize in the Social Enterprise Category at the Converge Challenge Awards at the Assembly rooms last night.
The annual celebration of innovation and entrepreneurship for Scottish academia took place yesterday in Edinburgh’s Assembly Rooms. Over £160,000 worth of prizes was awarded to 10 entrepreneurs from Universities and Research Institutes from across Scotland at the gala awards, which were attended by over 200 representatives from higher education, the investment community, and the Scottish entrepreneurial ecosystem. The evening showcased an impressive diversity of projects ranging from new circular economy models to web engines for charity shops to novel antifungal drugs and reusable sanitary pads.
The Social Enterprise Award category, supported by Social Investment Scotland focuses on ideas that will have a positive impact on wider social and environmental issues and the work of the team from HDC certainly fits this. Their vision is to “Transform product design in health care” and their mission is to “Collaborate with end-users to co-design fit-for-purpose, accessible, attractive and affordable health care products.” Their first product is going to be a range of footwear for people suffering from foot drop
The University is very proud of the team and their achievements and we look forward to working with and supporting them in the future
