Jaspal Chouhan (MSc Physiotherapy) had the idea for SmartStep from an experience he had with a family member living with Parkinson's.
SmartStep is an app for smart-phones which integrates with smart-watch and smart-home technologies to provide auditory cueing for people with Parkinson's. Auditory cues are proven to be effective during and episode of freezing - a common symptom associated with Parkinson's. SmartStep provides on-demand reassurance and personalised cues to help an individual during a freezing episode, making their environment safer and increasing their autonomy.
"My wife-to-be has always inspired me to be entrepreneurial. Having started her own company and crafted her own line of work early in her career, I have learnt to think in new ways and look at challenges differently."
