Inbound Students

Exchange or Study Abroad students should have a 50%+ average grade at the time of submitting an application to the University to spend a semester or Academic Year with us.

Students should prove their English language ability in one of the following ways:

• include in an applicant’s academic reference letter attesting that their English language level is suitable to carry out the academic program to which the applicant has applied; or
• include evidence of having passed one of the approved tests on our approved list of English language qualifications at CEFR Level B2 or above (English Language Requirements)
• include evidence that your home university teaches your subject of study in English.

Students from outside of the EU/EEA and whose native language is not English must provide evidence of having passed one of the approved tests on our approved list of English language qualifications. (English Language Requirements)

Students from native English speaking countries do not need to provide evidence of their English language ability.

Most of our undergraduate programs are open to applications, however due to placements and restrictions on places available, not all subjects within Health and Drama are available. See our Course A-Z for a list of our undergraduate programs.

Step 1

Ask your home university Exchange or Study Abroad coordinator to inform Queen Margaret University about your nomination to study with us. Your home university should confirm your name, subject area and time applying to spend with us i.e. Semester 1, Semester 2 or Academic year, and your email address.

Step 2

Applying to Queen Margaret University as an Exchange or Study Abroad student is very easy. Applications should be made online by selecting one of the links below:

You should complete your online application and upload copies of your transcripts, details of modules studies but not yet graded, proof of English language proficiency if English is not your first language, one academic reference, and the photo page of your passport. Any supporting documents not available at the time of submitting your application can be emailed to studyabroad@qmu.ac.uk.  Your application cannot be considered until all appropriate documents have been received.

Step 3

Your application will be considered by the appropriate Departmental Exchange Coordinator(s). Teaching at Queen Margaret University builds knowledge on a subject each academic year. We will assess your application based on the modules you have studied to date (i.e. look at your depth of knowledge in the subject area) and your personal statement. Once your application has been assessed, a decision will be made and emailed to you along with module descriptors for courses that will be available to you.

Students coming to Queen Margaret University via one of our named Exchange partnerships will not be required to pay any tuition fees. As an exchange student you will be responsible for your general living expenses such as books and accommodation.

We also encourage students whose institution does not have an exchange agreement with us to come to Queen Margaret University as a Study Abroad student. If you hold a non-EU/EEA passport you will need a student visa/immigration permission for your time in the UK. There are a range of options depending on the length of your study and which country you hold a passport for. The International Office can provide you with tailored advice depending on your circumstances.
